ARMA-NL is organizing its first two-annual conference and we are very excited that we will be able to organize a face-to-face meeting for our members after a long period of virtual events.

Christian Jagersma is the elected chairman and co-founder of the Association of Research Managers and Administrators the Netherlands (ARMA-NL) that stimulates professionalization of research support and management within the Netherlands by, among other things, offering training and networking opportunities. He will open the first annual ARMA-NL conference with the central thema: Impact-driven research funding and will kick off the first plenary session with highly appreciated speakers.

For years the cost action BESTPRAC has been a success in helping research administrators throughout Europe gaining knowledge, professionalizing their profession and building a network of expertise. In this session Edwin Kanters explains why this project has been so successful, what has become of this large group of research administrators and what the future can bring.

 

 

 

3. RAAAP - Research Administration as a Profession survey - Simon Kerridge (University of Kent).

Following the first RAAAP survey from 2016, a RAAAP-2 (endorsed by INORMS, the International Network of Research Management Societies that ARMA-NL is a member of) survey was conducted in 2019.  The second survey elicited 4,325 responses, including 79 from the Netherlands [68 ARMA-NL members] amongst 1,000 from continental Europe.  The session will outline the RAAAP-2 survey process and present some initial findings about our profession

2. Edwin Kanters is leader of work package 1 of the BESTPRAC action and is passionate for research administration and the world of grants. Edwin currently works as head of the VU GRANTS OFFICE which started as a new department under institutional affairs at the VU. Previously he worked at the Subsidiedesk VU/VUmc as a post award advisor and has been part of BESTPRAC2 as working group 1 leader.

 

3. Simon Kerridge has been a research manager and administrator for over 25 years, the past eight leading the research office at Kent. Simon Kerridge is an EARMA Board member, and also sits on the Annual Conference Programme, and Awards Committees. He sits on the NCURA Select Committee for Global Affairs, is a past chair of ARMA, the UK association, and acts as an expert for the EU funded foRMAtion project.

Public Private Partnerships (PPP) are an important means to achieve Philips’ ambitions in health innovation. Collaborations with academic and clinical partners allow Philips to faster develop healthcare technology and validate novel solutions in hospital settings. Rob will share the Philips perspective to PPP, showing examples of its long-term joint innovation programmes.

Biography

1. Rob Smeets is Director Public-Private Partnerships at the GlobalPartners organization, which is part of Philips’ Chief Technology Office. Rob received his Master degree in Economics in 1995, at Tilburg University, the Netherlands, with a specialization in International Economic Affairs. In 2006 Rob joined Philips, where he was responsible for informing and consulting the Philips’ R&D community on participating in European collaborative R&D programs. Rob’s expertise in in the area of medical technology and digitisation of health. In his current role of Director Public-Private Partnerships, Rob is in charge of building European R&D networks and managing Philips’ participation in the Horizon 2020 and the future Horizon Europe R&D programs.

Abstract

How can social media maximise impact? Gwen Obels and Judith Snel are called the ‘Branding Stars’. Together they help female professionals and entrepreneurs to be more visible and communicate with self confidence and self awareness. During their presentation they will answer the question how researchers can make use of social media for more impact.
 

Biography

Judith Snel believes in the power of storytelling and content from a humanity perspective. Her specialty is translating brand tot content. Also she supports the idea of the impact of internal brand ambassadors. “I like to inspire people to create more stories and in the meantime stay close to your personal brand.”

 

Gwen Obels is passionate about setting up and executing marketing communication strategies. Her specializations are branding and campaign strategy. It is her strength to understand target groups, using the available technology. Not only to analyze them but also to reach the right audience with the help of effective content, PR and marketing campaigns

Abstract

Horizon Europe is expected to be launched in January 2021. The planning for this Programme started at the beginning of 2017. This  workshop has been designed to help Directors and Senior Support Staff to monitor the development of the Programme. This will be important when preparing strategies for the period 2021 to 2027.

This workshop is based on Seán McCarthy’s ongoing analysis of the debate and 39 years working with the previous 8 Framework Programmes.

Biography

Sean McCarthy has been active in the Framework programmes since 1980. He has been involved in over 150 research proposals to the Framework programmes and has participated in over 60 Framework projects. In 16 of these projects he was the coordinator.  Today he does not participate in the Framework programmes but concentrates on designing and delivering training courses for organizations who participate in the programmes.
